Braised Brussels Sprouts with Bacon

Brussels sprouts are a love/hate dish - people either love the, or they hate them. I think that most people who hate Brussels sprouts simply haven't had them prepared the right way - a lot of people boil them into a gross mush that tastes like how farts smell. 

Roasting or braising is the way to go with Brussels sprouts; this recipe is quick, easy and, best of all, has bacon! 

Braised Brussels Sprouts with Bacon
adapted from White on Rice Couple

1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed & halved
4 slices bacon, diced
2 Tbsp minced shallots
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1/4 cup chicken stock

Heat a heavy pan over medium heat; add bacon and fry until fat has rendered (about 5-10 minutes). Add shallots and cook until soft.

Add Brussels sprouts, soy sauce and stock. Stir to combine, then cover and reduce heat to low. Cook 15-20 minutes or until sprouts are tender. 


  1. Julia, we tried the Brussels sprouts last night and they were GREAT! It's the first time a whole container got devoured in one sitting (there was a minor "dispute" over who got to eat the remaining bacon pieces). Thanks!
